1 a.m. Thoughts With a Dash of Mozzarella

Tick tock, tick tock, 1a.m. strikes,

and all I can think of is cheese.

Swiss, havarti, gouda, and brie,

Fountains and sprinkles, melted and sliced,

both creamy and rich, while also, soft and subtle

string cheese, never to only bite. 2a.m. strikes,

and down the stairs I wander to the coldness

of the fridge waiting for the scent of cheese.

3a.m. strikes, but when I search and search,

I guess a mouse must have been here,

There’s not a speck of cheese in sight!

It must have broken in, in the dark of the night,

opened the door, and raided each shelf

though when I think of the cheese

that had once been there before,

I realize maybe it was not the thievery

of a cheese loving mouse but maybe, just maybe,

the mouse was me.
