We, for now, Swaddled
By Kathryn Chupp
Splashed with milky light,
the blanketed sky wraps us up:
a safe feel of small.
Shooting stars commence,
and we lay in the fleeting
life of light.
We, naive
to their final bow in the
dance of brilliance.
We, invincible
to the sure presence of death,
too young to fathom
when it will feel
too small, and we, too, will
fall into vaster skies.
But for now,
feel the breasted Earth
pull us close, swaddled in stars.
