Opus

a poem i am not ready to attach my name to

If I had a platform

If I had a stage

A microphone, audience and camera

Here is what I would say:

one in five women

i am that one

one in five women

i am angry

i am furious

i don’t want to hear

“not all men”

i don’t want to hear

“what were you wearing?”

a full year later

my hurt is still here

my anger is still here

i am angry at the system

at Title IX

at the lack of justice

at myself

for not being braver

for not being stronger

for being scared

for being in that situation at all

but i should not have to be here

angry and hurt

i should have never been put here

If I had a platform

If I had a stage

I would tell the whole world:

I don’t want your pity

I want change
