Opus

Served with a Twist

Hello, readers. I’m Samantha Grody, the art editor for Opus. In the past few posts, we’ve been talking a lot about creating and finding inspiration. This week, I’m going to talk about representing your creation through different mediums. There’s several videos on Youtube that represent poems through animations. You don’t necessarily see the words of the poems. Instead, you see how the artist interprets the poem. This allows you to create what you want, putting your own flare on revered works. An excellent example of this is the Youtube video “Bluebird animation based on Charles Bukowski’s poem.” Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsc3ItAKSLc

In some of my classes, we have been encouraged to create art based on a poem or story, or even create a poem or story based on a work of art. These kind of exercises are important because they broaden your scope as an artist, help you better understand your own style, and expand your materials of inspiration. Sometimes,we can get stuck in a certain style of art or writing and choose the same artists to emulate. Try creating something that makes you uncomfortable! Even if you don’t, at least watch some of these interesting videos. It’s amazing to see what people can imagine. Serve original, revered works with a twist! Thanks for reading, and remember to keep creating! Enjoy the links.
Thanks,
Samantha Grody
